The Youth Advisory Group (YAG) brings together children and young people aged 12–18 from across Jersey to help guide the work of the Children’s Commissioner.

YAG members share their views on what matters most to young people and help make sure children’s voices are at the centre of laws, policies and decisions in Jersey.

What YAG does

  • Talks about issues that affect young people in Jersey.
  • Advises the Commissioner and her team on what’s working well and what needs to change.
  • Helps design consultations, surveys and creative projects.
  • Represents young people’s voices at events, panels and meetings.
  • Helps shape reports, campaigns and advice for government and services.

Members meet regularly throughout the year and take part in workshops, visits and special projects.

Why it matters

The Commissioner has a duty to listen to children and young people directly – not only to adults who work with them. The YAG makes that happen, giving real insight into the everyday lives of Jersey’s young people.

How to join

We recruit new members every year and aim for a mix of ages, experiences and backgrounds. You don’t need to have done anything like this before – just be ready to share your thoughts and ideas.

If you’d like to join, we’ll explain how the group works, what support is available and what’s expected of members.
